ENERGY LEVEL 61-65: CONTEMPT
Contempt is the feeling of looking down on someone or something with a sense of superiority. It often comes with judgment, disrespect, and a belief that the other person is beneath us—morally, intellectually, or socially. Unlike anger, which reacts to hurt, contempt often dismisses or mocks. It’s cold, not hot. People feeling contempt may roll their eyes, sneer, or use sarcasm. These small behaviors reveal the deeper emotion of rejection and disdain. Contempt creates distance. It blocks understanding, trust, and connection. It can show up in relationships, workplaces, or even within communities. Over time, it poisons communication and destroys respect. This emotion is often rooted in pride, fear, or insecurity. It protects the ego by making others seem small or unworthy. But living in contempt keeps us stuck—closed off from empathy, humility, and growth. To move beyond contempt, we must recognize our shared humanity. Compassion breaks contempt apart. Respect rebuilds what it destroys.
